Please join us, Friday, June 1st, 2012 from 4:00p to 8:00p for the opening reception of Bhutan at David Weinberg Photography 300 West Superior St, Suite 203 (Franklin and Superior Streets) River North Chicago. There is a time-warp that kicks in when you first set foot in Bhutan. They dress the way they did 200 years ago and the country houses haven’t changed much in design in that same period. It truly is a photographer’s Shangri La. There are all too many countries to which I have traveled where people are fanatically guarded when approached by a photographer. But Bhutan was different. The people are kind, interested and were eager to engage. Much of this attitude I feel is out of national pride and the hope for greater tourism but most of it is just a culture of happiness and gentleness. My two weeks in Bhutan was an appetizer for a more extensive trip I hope to make, back to this amazing picturesque country. - David Weinberg We hope to see you.

“For many, when hearing the word “family” brings other words to mind; mom, dad, brothers, sisters, love and birth. But what if you were flown into your mother and father’s arms not by a stork but by a Boeing 747. My siblings and I were all adopted across the pacific from the countries India and South Korea, we came from foster mothers and lonely orphanages to parents and a little home in Illinois, some of us healthy and some with life-inhibiting special needs. For at one time we might have all been strangers, but with time, love and perseverance we are fortunate to call ourselves one family.”  - Matthew Avignone

“Matthew Avignone is a young Chicago photographer (b.1987) who introduces us to his unique family through formal portraits and revealing snapshots. This is Avignone’s first solo exhibition and most viewers will recognize a mastery that belies the artist’s age in these two photographic formats that remain essential to what we desire in family pictures” - David Travis (press release)     We hope to see you.
